Guided tour in Brussels

The Battle of the Somme was one of the most significant events of World War I, and many visitors to Belgium make it a point to pay their respects to the thousands of lost soldiers during this lengthy pitched battle. Your private guided tour to the Battle of the Somme will allow you to spend a memorable day visiting the most important monuments of this historically important location.

This area is known as “The Poppy Country”, as so many visitors leave a poppy next to the name of their loved ones engraved on the war memorials. It is said that the Battle of the Somme truly symbolized the horrors of trench warfare in World War One, with enormous casualties inflicted during the conflict. Your guided tour will include a visit to the Somme Trench Museum 1916, which memorializes the soldiers and their experiences. As we leave the Mussee Somme 1916, we will walk through Albert’s beautiful public garden along the winding river Ancre.

Our private tour of the Somme Battlefields will take us to see the Lochnagar Crater Memorial. This is the largest man-made mine crater of WWI, and was the result of the explosion that launched the British offensive against the Germans.

Our private guide in Brussels is waiting for you!!!

The battle to claim the Mametz Wood was another important part of the Battle of the Somme, and the 38th Division of Welsh soldiers is commemorated with a memorial sculpted by famous Welsh sculptor and blacksmith, David Petersen. The monument is a magnificent red Welsh Dragon, which is the emblem of the flag of Wales.

Your private guided tour of the Battle of the Somme includes a visit to the Thiepval Memorial to the Missing of the Somme, which commemorates the 72,191 British and South African soldiers lost in these battles. We will also tour the Newfoundland Memorial Park near Beaumant Hamel. This 82 acre park was purchased by the Canadian government and named in honor of the Newfoundland Regiment from Canada which fought so valiantly here during World War I and the Battle of the Somme. The magnificent  Caribou Memorial is a breathtaking site for visitors to the Newfoundlandland Memorial Park.
