Goroka Show - September each year*  

This is our big one right here in Goroka! Every Independence Day weekend, all the tribes from Eastern Highlands come down to National Park. 

Imagine 100+ groups in full bilas - feather headdresses as tall as a house, face paint, shells, animal skins. Huli wigmen, Asaro Mudmen with their grey clay masks, Chimbu warriors... all singing, dancing, stomping at the same time. The ground shakes!

Why we love it: It’s not just a show for tourists. It’s us. Tribes who were once enemies now meet as brothers, share stories, show their culture. Kids learn their roots. No fighting, just pride.

Hagen is the “big brother” show in Western Highlands. Bigger, more tribes, more tourists. Same spirit though. 

Mt. Hagen is famous for the wigmen - men spend years growing their hair to make those huge traditional wigs. And the moka exchange - where tribes give pigs + money to build relationships. That’s highlands way of making peace.
