A hundred years ago only the wealthy people in cities could afford to pass its vacation at the shore or on the mountains, so the common destination was the countryside and relatives. Today, when many city kids have never seen or lived a “former life” and the life that was once around them, rural tourism has become even interesting to notice that they cannot deny the positive effects of our existence in nature.
The rural household “The Stone House” managed to preserve a way of life and customs, as well as the cultural heritage belonging to it and puts it in a new form of rural tourism, and offers a true impression of the atmosphere and experience that used to be a basic form of life in the regions of the Dalmatian hinterland.
The Stone House offers a unique experience of the original way of life over the Dalmatian hinterland, as well as the authentic cuisine and customs.
The traditional lunch or the wine tasting is something that just a few of travelers are able to experience – so unspoiled, so friendly, so untouristic and gob-smackingly hidden small place in the Dalmatian hinterland. It takes place in Pakovo Selo (Pakovo village) on a family farm that produces wine, brandies, liqueurs, olive oil, cheese and more. . . The farm preserves an authentic rural heritage.
For lunch, we’ll have the tasty Dalmatian dry-cured ham (prosciutto) from Drniš, which has been added to the EU’s list of Geographical Indications under the CAP quality scheme, with home-made cheese and home-made bread… as a main dish, we’ll have a chance to try the Dalmatian “Peka” dish… everything followed by exquisite home-made organic wine…
A "Peka" is a baked dish with meat and vegetables made in a pot or a tray, the pot is put into the embers of a fireplace under "the bell" (under the lid). In many houses here in Dalmatia is a traditional home-made specialty, especially in the countryside. The meat gets so soft that you can literally chew it with your eyebrows!
