Alexandria never ceases to fascinate travelers who are visiting Egypt. Driving through the desert by private van, it will take us about three hours to reach Alexandria from Cairo. Once there, you’ll be greeted by a professional guide who will show you the main attractions of the Mediterranean capital of the country.

The first stop will be made in the Montaza Palace. This remarkably beautiful complex was originally constructed to serve as the summer residence of the royal family of Egypt. It is the perfect place to get accustomed to the unique atmosphere of this city, because Alexandria always had a certain contrast to it of compared to other cities in Egypt.

Our next stop is the Qaitbay Citadel, constructed more than five centuries ago on a strategic site to protect Alexandria from maritime attacks. It is regarded as the place where the famous Lighthouse of Alexandria, one of the Ancient Wonders of the World, used to stand before collapsing due to an earthquake a thousand years ago.

Proceeding to the Pompey’s Pillar, we’ll admire the largest monolith column that was ever erected in the ancient times.

Concluding our Alexandria journey will be a visit to the peculiar Catacombs of Kom el Shoqafa, primarily known for their numerous tombstones and statues executed in a mix of Egyptian, Roman and Greek styles. After admiring the unique Mediterranean blend of cultural and religious influences we’ll set out on a journey back to Cairo in the late evening.
