As one of the oldest recorded cities in history, Athens is known as the cradle of western civilization. It is the capital city of Greece and its largest metropolis, as well as being one of the world’s richest cities. Athens is near the Saronic Gulf, and is built on a series of hills in the Attica Plain surrounded by tall mountains.
