Information about Cairo

When you think of Egypt, the first thing that comes into mind is, of course, the image of the Great Pyramids. And where do you find them other than the capital city of Cairo? The largest city of Africa and the Arab World, Cairo is a truly wonderful place to visit, boasting so many attractions that it will take weeks for you to visit them all.

Apart from being located just near the famous Giza plateau, Cairo features a large number of landmarks inside the city, ranging from the Ancient ruins to modern attractions. Regardless of which aspect of Egyptian heritage you are interested in you will certainly find it here, in Cairo.

Cairo is the primary transportation hub of Egypt, and its proximity to such ancient cities as Memphis, Fustat and Giza make it a very convenient part of any tour in Egypt, regardless of your primary destination. The capital features the largest collection of Ancient Egyptian artifacts stored in the National Museum of Egyptology, so you will definitely get plenty of things to lay your eyes upon.

The famous Old Cairo is another place in the capital that is worth visiting if you want to enjoy its rich cultural heritage. And of course, how can you miss the famous Khan El-Khalili bazaar, which is one of the oldest and the largest bazaars in the world?

The Great Pyramids continue to fascinate travelers thousands of years after being built. Many people start asking themselves, how these colossal structures have been built by a society that didnít have modern-day machinery. Such questions are most common when an Egypt private guide takes you to see the Giza Necropolis complex, and you realize the scale and genius behind these amazing structures. The best way to answer these questions is asking a professional engineer, such as yours truly.

And on our last day when we requested to have a late start, Marwa managed to cover everything planned and still have time for a late lunch and tea in the evening at the charming old Cairo neighborhood. Though we can see the Pyramids from our hotel window - Marwa left it till the end our day tour. And it was genius, the big bus loads of tourists are mostly gone in the afternoon, and what's left are small private tours like us - which meant we got to have moment with the Pyramids on our own - pictures with no humans in the background, just the sun, ...
