Information about Marrakech

A major city in the northwest African nation of Morocco is Marrakesh. It’s the third largest city in the country. Its location is to the north of the foothills of the Atlas Mountains. One of the city’s most notable landmarks is ‘Jemaa el-Fnaa’. It has been described as a ‘world-famous square’ and ‘a bridge between the past and present’. As part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site, it’s a busy center of city activity. Here you will see; acrobats, musicians, monkey trainers, story-tellers, entertainers and snake charmers. 

At the Tombs of the Seven Saints you can see the medina that holds the tombs of the seven patron saints of Morocco. According to tradition, the saints are sleeping and will awaken one day and will resume their good deeds. At the Museum of Islamic Art you can see a museum created by Yves Saint Laurent and Pierre Berge. The displays are of Islamic artifacts including pottery, plates, jewelry and antique doors. 

The nightlife flourishes in Marrakech. From discos to belly-dancing, music is the heart of the culture here. Just remember, this is an Islamic country and law and etiquette dictate that alcohol should not be consumed openly within view of a mosque. Try the Diamant Noir for some Western pop music and an easy-going party atmosphere with a big dance floor.
